Pandemic and other trip impediments

Getting a passport takes 10-12 weeks. We are now (Feb '21) about 17 weeks out from travel dates.  

"You can now apply for routine service and expect to receive a passport in 10-12 weeks*. You also have the option of paying an additional $60 for expedited service to receive your passport in 4-6 weeks.

These processing times apply to applications submitted by mail and in-person at an acceptance facility in your community. Most acceptance facilities such as post offices, clerks of court, and libraries are open and accepting passport applications. We encourage you to apply by mail when possible because it is a safe, contactless option for certain services. "

STEP 2: Bahamas Travel Health Visa Application

All persons travelling to The Bahamas, and those travelling inter-island, are required to apply for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa at travel.gov.bs.

VACCINATED TRAVELLERS

  • Fully vaccinated travellers will be required to upload valid proof of vaccination (such as CDC or government issued vaccine record card) in lieu of PCR test requirement.

  • For international travellers, proof of vaccination must confirm they have passed the two-week immunity period.

    •  
  • At this time The Bahamas Government will only be accepting vaccines by Pfizer Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca

UNVACCINATED TRAVELLERS

  • Unvaccinated travellers will be required to upload their negative COVID-19 PCR test results. Tests must be taken no more than 5 days prior to the date of arrival.

*Unvaccinated Bahamian citizens or residents planning to travel abroad for five (5) days or less must secure a test in the destination they visited before travelling back to The Bahamas. Any PCR test taken in The Bahamas prior to travel will not be valid for re-entry.

ALL TRAVELLERS: VACCINATED AND UNVACCINATED

  • As part of the Bahamas Travel Health Visa application, travellers will be required to opt-in to COVID-19 health insurance that covers them for the duration of their stay in The Bahamas. The cost of insurance is included in the Bahamas Travel Health Visa application fee.

  • Bahamas Travel Health Visa applications take up to 48 hours to process and should be completed with adequate lead time.

    •  
  • The cost of the Bahamas Travel Health Visa is dependent on length of stay and vaccination status.

    •  All
  • l travellers eighteen (18) years of age and older are required to complete an individual Bahamas Travel Health Visa.
  • Persons seventeen (17) years and younger are to add a profile within the account of their parent or guardian.

  • As part of the Travel Health Visa application, travellers will be required to opt-in to COVID-19 health insurance that covers them for the duration of their stay in The Bahamas. The cost of insurance is included in the Travel Health Visa application fee.

To Do in/around Bimini

23rd and 30th are travel, packing, unpacking, and not much else.  Possibly leaves 24,5,6,7,8,and 9 which is 6 days.  Although if check-in time at the apartment is 2p and we leave Ft. Lauderdale at 6a, we might have significant exploring time on the 23rd.  I recommend exploring South Bimini on the 23rd.  There is a beach, a nature trail, a Shark Lab, a reef, and a restaurant.  Being on land will allow Tina's (and anyone else who gets seasick) stomach to settle.   Top attractions: 1 A, 2 B, 3 C&G 4 D&H 5 E&F 6 I&J  Looks like 6 days worth of stuff to do. A. Gun Cay with Honeymoon Harbor, Gun Cay light house, snorkeling and beach.  over 10 miles by boat, whole day.  Lunch = deli take out to bring on the boat? B. South Bimini, beaches (Tiki Hut Beach, west coast of South Bimini), nature trail, shark lab, Shell Beach (west coast, has shells and snorkeling.  Is it the same as Tiki Hut Beach, just with a different name?).  Whole day.  Lunch Thirsty Turtle. travel day one

 Part of our group lives in a traffic-heavy area so when we discussed times to leave, they said leaving before 9a does not decrease the arrival time, it just increases the amount of time in stop-and-go.  So we planned to leave at 9a and managed to actually leave at 9:13 and 9:16, respectively.  We had planned to take the Richmond bypass because it has a lot less merging traffic and less bridge joints to jolt the trucks and trailers than taking i95 directly through Richmond.  From there we would stop at Rivers Bend Grill in Chesterfield, VA because we'd get there around noon, and it is easily accessible from the bypass.  Early that morning one of our group realized Rivers Bend is closed on Mondays, so we had to pick something else.  I found that Central Park Deli shares a parking lot with Kroger (grocery stores are likely to have lots of empty spaces which allows for space for parking the rigs), and it got pretty good reviews.  What I didn't realize was that the Deli is actually
